The house

A restored 1920s captain's house, a pool hidden in the palms, and fourteen rooms that open onto the garden. No lobby, no lanyards. Just a key, a bicycle and the whole island.

The white veranda house behind a fountain and palms

Built in 1924 for a sponge merchant. Restored, slowly, over three years.

The rooms

Linen, cane and terrazzo. Every room opens to the garden or the pool, and none of them has a view of a parking lot.

“The kind of quiet you forget exists. We booked two nights and stayed six.”

A day at Palmena goes something like this.

01

Bikes & a beach bag

Cruisers, towels and a packed cooler wait by the gate each morning. Smathers Beach is eleven minutes away.

02

Bar Palma at dusk

Rum from the Keys, limes from the garden, and a record player nobody is allowed to skip.

03

Breakfast under the palms

Key lime curd, Cuban toast and island coffee, served until noon because nobody here is in a hurry.

Letters from the island.

Four letters a year on what's blooming, where to eat, and the first word on quiet weeks.
